Last night Sam went out with some friends to Atlanta to see Fear Factory. For those unfamiliar, Fear Factory is a raucous industrial metal band and totally not my bag. I was glad he got out and had some fun and my plan is to let him sleep as long as possible this morning while I take the kids grocery shopping and do some cleaning. I totally don’t mind because 1) Sam works very hard and never goes out and 2) I’m jumping ship this weekend to head to the Decatur Book Festival and spend time with friends.
I am more excited about the friend part than the book part! I’ll be spending the night at my friend Shannon and her partner Amy’s house; there is sure to be loads of chatting and hanging out. Ummmmm…. and I get to sleep through the night uninterrupted. Sunday I’m meeting up with Thomas and I cannot wait to meet him in person. This will be the first time I’ve met a blog-friend in person after over nine years of blogging. I am so stoked.
As for the book festival, I’ve never been so I have no idea what to expect. To be honest, I saw very few authors I’ve read. This is not a criticism of the festival; I know it is simply because all of my favorite authors are either dead or British (or both). I’m definitely checking out Libba Bray and I may take in some Katha Pollitt and Roxanne Gay because FEMINISM in GEORGIA?! Mostly I’ll be walking around taking in the vendors and people watching. While I most likely won’t buy anything, I cannot wait to visit the Georgia Book and Paper Fair and longing for the rare books on display.
Cheers for a fun weekend!
