List Love: Childhood Classics I’d Love to Revisit

I loved re-reading Black Beauty earlier this month and I feel like I probably should check out some childhood classics. Here are the top ten children’s classics I want to revisit:

  1. Great list. I’ve never heard of Ishi, though. I went and read a blurb on it and am going to have to track it down. I had The Light in the Forest by Conrad Richter on my list. We were forced to read it in school somewhere along the way, and that is ALL I can remember about it, other than I dreaded class when we were doing it. I’ve decided I’d like to actually *read* it just to see if it is one of those that I might have enjoyed if it hadn’t been for school.

    1. One of the perks of being homeschooled was that I read constantly. When we had a particular unit in history or science we could read whatever non-fiction we wanted. I was obsessed with Native American history and read everything I could.

  2. I was so obsessed with Witch of Blackbird Pond–and the Little House books. I haven’t revisited Witch as an adult, but I do reread the Little House books occasionally. There are some very distressing episodes of racism that I somehow overlooked as a child. But I still love those books. Did you read Emily of New Moon? I liked Anne of Green Gables but I LOVED Emily!

  3. I love some of those covers!! I’ve read some of these as adults and meh BUT I can’t wait to share them with my girls as I know that they’ll be swept away with the stories. (I think Hollywood ruined my reading of these books as an adult). Except Alice. LOVE Alice.
